World Oceans Day is an important occasion to reflect on the vital role that oceans play in sustaining life on Earth. In 2024, Insan Wisata Kids celebrated the day by planting 100 mangrove seedlings at Wana Tirta Mangrove Ecotourism in Kulon Progo. Beyond contributing to environmental restoration, the activity also served as an educational experience, helping trip participants understand the importance of mangrove ecosystems and their impact on the environment.

During his opening remarks, Reza Nurdiana, Founder of Insan Wisata Kids, encouraged parents to take an active role in protecting the environment. He emphasized that many of our daily activities unknowingly shorten the lifespan of the planet, making it essential for everyone to take simple yet meaningful actions—such as planting trees.

Mangroves are among the most effective trees at absorbing carbon, making them a key natural solution for mitigating the effects of climate change. By involving parents throughout the trip, Insan Wisata Kids hopes to inspire environmental awareness that can be passed on to children from an early age.

As a child-friendly tour operator, Insan Wisata Kids goes beyond guided tours and educational sessions by offering engaging hands-on workshops. One of the highlights of the World Oceans Day trip was an interactive activity led by the MainYuk community.

Recycling Plastic Waste into Creative Art

Who would have thought that used clear plastic packaging could be transformed into beautiful works of art?

During the World Oceans Day trip, participants created sea turtle-shaped sun catchers using recycled plastic sheets. The workshop was both fun and educational, teaching children the importance of reducing plastic waste that could otherwise end up polluting the ocean. Through creative activities like this, participants learned that even discarded materials can be given a new purpose while helping protect the environment.

Learning About Mangroves and Sea Turtles

Pak Warso, a conservation advocate from Wana Tirta Mangrove Ecotourism, joined the program to share his knowledge about the vital role of mangrove ecosystems. To make the session even more engaging, he brought several baby sea turtles (hatchlings) as part of the educational experience.

Through this activity, Insan Wisata Kids aimed to show participants that mangroves do much more than protect coastlines from erosion. They also provide essential habitats for countless species, including sea turtles, which are becoming increasingly endangered.

Guided by their parents and Insan Wisata Kids facilitators, participants explored the lush mangrove forest while observing its rich biodiversity. Along the way, they spotted various plants and wildlife, including egrets flying overhead and resting among the branches in search of food.

The highlight of the day was the planting of 100 mangrove seedlings. With great enthusiasm, more than 100 participants took part in the planting activity, hoping the young trees would grow strong and make a lasting positive impact on the environment.

This meaningful experience became more than just a fun day outdoors—it created lasting memories while inspiring children and their families to develop a deeper appreciation for nature and the importance of protecting it for future generations.
