Little Archaeologist

What if your Little Explorer could learn about history not just by listening to stories, but by experiencing it firsthand?

In the Little Archaeologist program, children are invited to explore the beautiful Plaosan Temple complex and discover one of Indonesia’s remarkable cultural heritage sites that has stood for centuries. The journey begins with a guided exploration of the temple, where they observe intricate stone reliefs, ancient architecture, and historical traces that continue to tell stories from the past.

Next, the children will learn directly from members of the local community who have lived around the temple for generations. Through this interactive session, they will gain insights into the temple restoration process, understand why preserving cultural heritage is so important, and discover how local communities play a vital role in protecting these historical treasures for future generations.

After building this foundation of knowledge, the children will step into the role of Little Archaeologists. They will experience the basic stages of archaeological work by discovering replica artifacts, identifying their shapes and characteristics, understanding their possible functions, and analyzing how these objects were connected to everyday life in the past. This hands-on activity encourages observation, critical thinking, problem-solving, and evidence-based reasoning.

To conclude the program, the children will experience what it is like to become a relief stone carver (silpin). Through this creative activity, they will learn that every carving found on the temple walls was created with exceptional craftsmanship, patience, and dedication. It offers a deeper appreciation for the artisans whose skills helped create these timeless cultural masterpieces.

Through this immersive experience, history becomes more than just stories in a textbook. It transforms into an engaging learning journey where children explore, investigate, create, and develop a deeper appreciation for Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage while fostering a sense of pride and responsibility to help preserve it for generations to come.
